Monday, what more can I say!

I have to start out by saying that I am in absolute awe that my newspaper would have the audacity to leave out the KROGER sale ad!!!!!!!! I am planning to just head on over to Jennifer's blog and see what she came up with rather than trying to squint at the small print on this computer screen to see what I want to purchase, all I can say is ugh!

My newspaper did contain a brown bag for Office Max. You get 20% off what you can put in the bag, plus they had extra things like .01 crayons, and .10 for some other items.

First a link to Alicia's blog - link, she has listed some of the Walgreens items for this week and next week that I might have missed. Also some ideas on how to get some extra coupons so check her blog before you go to the store. All you who are following multiple blogs would benefit by signing up with blogger and becoming following of my blog and hers as well. When you do that all you do is go to www.blogger.com, type in your email and password and this great page pops up that tells shows you all the blogs that you follow if they have update. That way there is no more guessing or checking two or three blogs, it is just one place and they link you to the rest. Consider it.

One other thing, I have been getting some questions about when to hand the cashier your coupons, etc. so I am going to clarify some things will quick. First of all let the cashier ring up your items, at Walmart I always put anything I need to price match at the end of my items so I don't forget. With the pricing match ladies you have to tell the cashier before they ring it up or right after. They have to have that product to scan, and then they can put in the new price. You need to have the ad handy and let them see it. After all your items are scanned and before you pay THEN you give them the coupons. After the coupons you pay. I hope this helps some of you. If you have questions don't hesitate to email me or post a comment. I will try to respond to it in a timely manner.

When I had the incident with Walgreens a couple of months ago (the one where I tried to use my RR but they wouldn't let me for the computer said it was over even though it wasn't and then the manager commented that I had used alot of coupons, which had nothing to do with the fact that the RR wouldn't work) I told them I would not be coming back and now they have something that I want to purchase for myself as well as for my church..so what do I do? Okay I did a post before this one that updates you on the coupon links. Make sure to check these links every couple of weeks because they tend to add new items. The All You Magazine is now out for the month, the coupons are mostly repeats of what you already have BUT there are a few new ones in it that make it worth picking up.

Money Saving Tip #10:
Movies. We all love to see a good movie from sappy to happy, we can't seem to let fantasy alone. It gives us time to pretend we are/were someone else. But you know what, movies are EXPENSIVE. From the theater to home you can spend a ton of money on these things so how can me make them cheaper? If you like to physically go to the movies one way to go cheaper is always to go to a matinee or during the day. Also try to find a dollar theater in your area, the movies may be a couple of months behind but you can save lots of money depending on how many people you are taking. Regal Entertainment has a family film festival during the summer. For nine weeks you can take your kids to the movies for free!!!! Check out the link above to see what will be playing and where. Another way is to buy movies used or previously viewed, you can do this at your local Blockbuster, Food City, or movie store. You can also purchase previously viewed movies through Half.com or through Netflix. If you are like my family and there are movies you just want to rent but not buy then you also have several options:

• the library loans movies for free
• Redbox (use link to get one free rental) - this is a red box that is set up around town and you can rent 1 movie for $1 for 1 night
• Netflix (free trial offer) is another option you can get any where from 1 movie to 4 movies at a time for one set price (pricing based on number of movies chosen) sent to your home, shipping back to them is free and very quick. It is my understanding that the trial offer is very easy to cancel.
• Blockbuster, link to the free trial offer. They also do as Netflix, the only advantage is that you can return and exchange a movie at the store, cutting out one day of wait time.

Money Saving Tip #5:
I love to read. Books can get VERY expensive. Here are a couple of ways to cut down the cost on those books that you want to read:
1. Borrow from a Library. If they don't have your book you can request they attempt to get it from another library using inter-library loan.
2. Go to a used book store. Lots of stores now take your used books and let you trade them for more used books. Or you can just purchase the used book at a cheaper price.
3. Go to a regular book store and see if they have a used section. Several of the Christian book stores in my area now have a used section.
4. When all else fails, go to Half run by ebay. This is a great way to pick up used/new books at a great price.

Saving Money, Tip #2:
Most of us have cell phones and/or house phones. A good way to save money is to assess if we need both or if we would be better off with just one. While watching Oprah a couple of weeks back the mother from the family voted "Most Thrifty Family in America" was there and she was saying that she only uses her cell phone for emergencies so she has a plan for $5 a month! I searched for this plan and found one other person who said he had a similar emergency plan and it was through Virgin Mobile. I investigated Virgin Mobile and the plan must be an older plan that is no longer available. So I have found the below test. You answer a few questions and it will show you the cheapest cell phone plans out there for your needs. Then you can determine if you are paying to much for your current plan or if you are getting a good deal. You can also take this test to determine how much you would be paying if you needed more minutes so you could get rid of a house phone. Either way you will save money, because "knowing is half the battle". :)

Walgreens - Tips, hints, and general information..

First of all I mentioned in an earlier post how on an episode of Oprah the lady from http://www.couponmom.com/ recommended doing your shopping based on sale papers. This information didn't reach me just because of this Oprah episode, it also came from one of my friends and my coupon buddy, Kim W. When it comes to coupon shopping she is awesome! She can remember every coupon she has EVER clipped. She is able to immediately notice what coupons will work and where to get the most benefit. She can spot a clearance item from half an aisle away and like I said she immediately knows if she has a coupon available for this product. She is the best I have ever seen, that is why she is my shopping buddy, and you can't have her! :) Now that I have given credit where credit is due, lets get down to business with Walgreens.

Walgreens has several terms that we need to discuss:

1. IVC or Instant Value Coupon
These are coupons that are to be used at Walgreens store. These coupons are located in the monthly Easysaver catalog that is produced for Walgreens. (It is rumored that some Kroger stores will take these coupons as well.)

2. Easysaver Catalog or Easysaver Booklet
This is a monthly booklet that you pick up at Walgreens stores. It contains IVCs for items in the Walgreens store. It also has information on how to apply for the Walgreens rebates.

3. Rebates
We all know what a rebate is. You purchase a product and then you have to fill out some kind of form and mail it in with an "original cash register receipt". Well this is the same thing. Throughout the month Walgreens will offer rebates on items that you might purchase. You will take the Easysaver booklet fill out the form and send in the receipt (following the directions from the booklet). Every month there are different items on this list. Every month they have some items that are completely free after the rebate.

4. RR or Register Rewards
This is like a coupon that prints out at the register after a purchase is made for certain items. Each weekly sale paper tells the information on RR. Since there is no card system at Walgreens there will be no limit on how many times you can take advantage of the RR deal.
Example: Buy 2 Nestle products receive $1 RR
You would purchase 2 nestle products on their list (can use IVC, and/or manufacturers coupons if at your disposal) and after your transaction is complete you will receive a $1 coupon/RR good on your next purchase of ANYTHING.

5. Walgreens.com
Sometimes you will find printable coupons on their website for $5 off of $20 only good for Friday and Saturday. Make sure to check there under their promotions so that you don't miss out on this.

6. Double Dipping
Every month the Easysaver catalogs overlaps by about 2 days. During those two days you can increase your savings. Here is what you do. First look at the items in each catalog and find the coupons that are available for the same items (there will only be a few) in both catalogs. Then find manufacturers coupons that work on these items as well. So you buy the said items using 2 IVC coupons as well as a manufacturer's coupon and get the products for a fraction of the cost!

In order to save more combine coupons from their sales paper, IVCs, manufacture coupons, and RR. You can also do multiple transactions. Here is an example from MikeJones http://forumst.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?sduid=0&t=939484 (on a slickdeals forum), this is for the week of Oct. 19th: (oop = out of pocket)
Transaction 1:AlkaSeltzer 4.99- (no q's)= 4.99 oop, get $4.99 RR

Transaction 2: Fusion Razor 8.99- $4 MFQ- $4.99 RR= 0.00 oop, get $4 RR

Transaction 3: AlkaSeltzer 4.99- $4 RR= 0.99 oop, get $4.99 RR

Transaction 4: Fusion Razor 8.99- $4 MFQ- $4.99 RR= 0.00 oop, get $4 RR

Lather, rinse, repeat, stock up.
Total out of pocket (oop) : $4.99 + .99 = 5.98 for 2 packs of alkaseltzer and 2 razors

This example is just to show you how this can work. Again the key is planning. Find out what you want to purchase and work out your scenario before you ever enter the store.

Places to Get Coupons

This is an old post that I am republishing for all you new people that might be dropping by. Enjoy!

Most of you out there in the couponing world have probably already discovered most of these sites but for those of you who haven't taken the time to look I have compiled a list of places to acquire coupons. It is fairly common knowledge that most papers come with coupons but there are many other places that I would like to share with you.


If you have used google or any kind of search engine and looked for coupons you have probably found most of these listed as individual links or in other blogs or articles. This list is to compile my coupon links in one place to help those that may just be getting started.


Now for the list:

1. Local newspaper


2. Big city Sunday paper. Have this delivered to your home if at all possible. Not only does the paper have great coupons but it also contains those sales papers that we need to use our coupons. You can maximize your savings by price checking items at one store instead of driving all over town, but you need the sales ad to do this.


3. All You Magazine. I have discussed this at length. It is sold at Wal-Mart. I recommend that you subscribe and have it sent to your home AND that you pick up extra copies at the store.


4. Join a coupon train in your area. A coupon train is where you get your coupons from the paper, keep the ones you like, and send the ones you don't need onto another person. This is a great way to get some really good coupons.


5. Try the grocery game. http://www.thegrocerygame.com/ My understanding is that this does have a small fee. The way this works is you get information on sales that have yet to be published and on coupons that you have yet to receive. This way you can decide whether it is better to use the coupon now or hold onto it and wait another couple of weeks until the sale is better.

Just a note this is by no means all the places to receive coupons. Most companies have begun offering coupons on their websites on a regular basis. These means that any brand name product that you purchase may have a coupon listed on the manufacturer's website, so look them up before you go to the store. This is just a proven starter listed. Tomorrow I will talk about places to use coupons and some basic tips. Make sure to read the comments that people are posting on the blog for additional helpful information.

Also as a side note, following this post is a post that shows my coupon book and also a link to a coupon train that you might like to join. The coupon train has saved me TONS of money because I am able to get double coupons without buying extra papers.
