Unfortunately due to time constraints I had to shop at Wal-Mart this week, *sigh*, so sad, I know. But I did find a couple of items that were a good deal or free with coupons that I thought I should share.

Back from Break

Sorry for the absence but it twas truly nice to have the weekend off! I spent most of my mornings with my nose in a book, and most of my afternoons at a girl scout Twilight camp. Can't say that I helped much but I was there if they needed me. Anyway, all in all it was a pleasurable weekend but I am glad to be free once again!

I am going to endeavor to explain this because I just think that it is sooo cool. I will probably do a rotten job but I will try anyway. If you have ever had to type in a "verification" word in order to do a comment or make an order you might have wondered "WHY am I doing this". Well believe it or not it has a purpose. I saw this on PBS one night. A couple of men (can't remember names, sorry) were trying to put all the books in the world on computer so they can be read, when they ran across a problem, the computer couldn't read some of those old timey words. So one of the men set to thinking if there was a way to get those words into the computer without someone just sitting down and typing them in. He had already created the program were you type in the verification word...this keeps computers from making comments or orders or "spam" without a human. Sooooo he decided to use what he had already created for extra good. Every time you type in a verification word to comment on blogger you are actually entering a word from a book that a computer can not read, therefore making it possible to be read! In no time at all those words that originally couldn't be recognized and therefore made it impossible to scan those old timey books will be entered into computers world round! Now tell me that isn't amazing! I hope that I explained this so you guys could understand it. I just found it so fascinating that I wanted to share.

CVS and Walgreens have some decent sales on school supplies. CVS has a couple of free with ECBs school sales with the last day being today. So off I go, to stick my nose in a book once again. By the way, the reading IS for pleasure. Thanks to a friend I have discovered a wonderful new author who has a multitude of books so it is going to take me a long time to read all them, I LOVE IT! I really dread when school starts back, oh, well such is the life of a homeschool mom.

I want to start with a little bit of commentary. I have been exercising frequently for about 18 months now but just recently in the last couple of months have I really been focusing on my diet. I didn't want to do a diet plan that would "starve" me, or one that consisted of food that tasted like cardboard. I really wanted a diet that I could "live" with. One that I can do for the long haul for my health and for the health of my family. This is has honestly affected what coupons I keep and what I get rid off. It also is changing what I find important in the sale papers. You may be seeing this change in my posting. I will still try to mention all the stuff that I find but this health obsession is DEFINITELY affecting what I see as a "good find". With that being said I thought I would do another post this afternoon, If I can find anything...:) (All you grammar freaks if I used affect when I should have used effect, sorry...I NEVER can understand those rules. I really can't tell you what is currently up with my computer. Sometimes when I use a different window it just seizes up and slows me down to the point that I can get it to do nothing! So the easiest thing to do is just to get out of the browser (I think I am using the right word) and start over. That is were we are now...starting over. I hope we don't have a repeat experience!

I will state this right off the bat here...the items at the beginning of the post have come from slickdeals. I really appreciate them sharing with me so that I can pick out the best stuff and share with you. I want to try to give credit where I can for the hard work, it is appreciated!

Dr. Pepper - Currently on sale at Target for 3 for $10. Go to link and print out the $1 Target coupons (shows a picture of A&W, but when you read it is for Dr. Pepper as well) and you will get these 3 for $7! Some of the stores have the Dr. Pepper with coupons attached. You can use both coupons because one is manufacturer and one is Target, which could make these as low as 3 for $4!

Target also has a coupon for .75 off of 2 pringles cans...combine with your paper coupon of $1 off of 2 and you will get $1.75 off of 2 cans! (I got this out of my own head, amazing!)

Lentil Stew

Did you know that in the Bible Esau traded his birthright to Jacob for lentil stew! Of course I have read this multiple times but I guess I just never really thought about it. In our history book, Mystery of History, the author suggested that we eat lentils so we could understand exactly what he traded his birthright for. If you want to try this here is a way to give it some flavor and get the kids to try it.

1 bag of lentils (around .94, not bad)
1 helping of rice (more if you think you will want it)
1 jar of salsa

Make the lentils by the directions on the bag. Top with cooked rice. Top that with salsa. It is better than you might think. It is also inexpensive and very healthy.

Politics: I don't know how many watched the President's press conference last night, I did but I also got paid to do so (remember HCD surveys that I mentioned a couple of posts back, they paid me to watch and answer a few questions). Anyway, there are tons of things that I could talk about but this morning I am just going to pick one, TAX BREAKS. He was asked by a reporter if he would sign the budget if it didn't include the tax breaks for the 95% of working people, and his answer was that we already have a tax break for 2 years. In other words this kind of says to me that, "yes" if it doesn't have the tax break he will still sign it. Just in case you haven't started receiving your tax break, it will start on April 1st, and you will see a whopping $13 extra on your pay check! My family has already started getting this great amount of extra and since we only get paid once a month we are seeing exactly $13. I would love to know if some of you biweekly employees are getting $13 in both checks or if it is being halfed, and what about the weekly paid employees is the $13 being put in fourths. Don't get me wrong $13 is $13, but I don't think this is what the people thought they would be getting when they voted him into office, but then again maybe I am mistaken. Monday

Just to give everyone a heads up, the stomach virus is running rampant through my family. First my middle child contracted it and it took her a week to stopping complaining with stomach pain, now my youngest has the virus. This will of course affect my posting. If I don't get any sleep at night then I won't be up doing a post in the morning, which means you will have to look for it later in the day. I love that some of you guys are coming here on a regular basis. I do, however, feel this overwhelming sense of "Oh, they are depending on me!" I will try my best to not let you down. :)

Us being sick has raised an interesting question with homeschooling. Last week we just pushed through and did as much as my child felt like doing. With the youngest it really isn't an issue because she is doing preschool so if she needs to take a day off then it is fine. But here is a question for all you homeschooling parents of multiple children, what do you do when one child is sick but the other is fine? Does everyone skip a day of school OR do you let one child be a day behind? What do you think? Leave me a comment with your answers.

Neat Snack:
I just had to share this neat snack idea that my grandmother passed along. You guys may have been doing this already but I hadn't even thought about it - FROZEN GRAPES! My family and I have been eating TONS of fruit here lately but it seems like the grapes don't stay perserved long enough. Anyway, my grandmother mentioned that frozen grapes are really good and she was so right. You just clean them, stick them in a ziploc bag and place in the freezer. When you go to eat them you just let them melt in your mouth until unfrozen and then start to chew, they are delicious! This is also a way to keep them fresher longer. Try it and see.
